Chronos Rates

Rates let you assign an hourly rate to each board member and see the monetary value of tracked time. Whether the rate represents an internal cost, a contractor's pay, or a client billing rate is up to you โ€” Chronos simply multiplies tracked time by the rate that was active when the time was logged.

The feature has two parts:

  • Hourly rates โ€” a Settings tab where workspace admins manage rates and the board currency
  • Rates โ€” a section in the Reports app that turns tracked time into value totals, charts, and per-member breakdowns

Who Sees Whatโ€‹

Money data follows stricter visibility rules than tracked time:

  • Workspace admins can set rates and see the value of everyone's tracked time.
  • Regular members see only the value of their own tracked time โ€” never other members' rates or totals.

Admin status is verified live against your Trello workspace membership, so it always reflects your current role.

Setting Hourly Ratesโ€‹

Workspace admins manage rates in Settings โ†’ Hourly rates.

Currencyโ€‹

Each board has one currency (USD, EUR, GBP, JPY, and many more). It is a display label only โ€” Chronos never converts between currencies. If a view combines boards with different currencies, totals are shown separately per currency.

Rates and Effective Datesโ€‹

Every rate has an effective from date:

  • The rate applies to all time tracked from that date onward, until a newer rate takes effect.
  • Earlier worklogs keep the rate that was active when they were tracked โ€” changing a rate today does not silently reprice last month's report.
  • To correct a rate rather than change it going forward, save a new value with the same effective date: it replaces that period in place.

Each member's History shows all rate periods and lets you delete one.

Unrated Timeโ€‹

Time tracked before a member's first rate period is unrated. It is reported separately and excluded from value totals โ€” never silently priced at 0. The Rates section shows a warning with the amount of unrated time so you can backdate a rate if needed.

Billable Valueโ€‹

Value means billable value: time marked non-billable has no monetary value and is excluded from all value totals, shown instead as its own "non-billable time" figure. By default all time is billable, so this changes nothing until you start marking time non-billable. See Invoicing โ†’ Billable time.

The Rates Sectionโ€‹

Open the Chronos board bar and switch to Rates (next to Calendar, Timeline, Charts, Report, and Export). All the usual report filters and the date range apply.

For admins it shows:

  • Total value, tracked time, and member count for the selected period
  • A bar chart of value over time, grouped by day, week, or month
  • By member โ€” time, current rate, value, and unrated time per member, with inline rate editing: enter a rate and an effective date right in the table. The date defaults to the report's start, so a newly set rate immediately prices the period you are reviewing.
  • Top cards by value โ€” the cards where the most value accumulated

Regular members see the same layout scoped to themselves: Your value, your tracked time, and their own summary.

Admins also get a Create invoice button here, which turns the selected period's billable time into an invoice for a client. See Invoicing.

Values in Calendar and Timelineโ€‹

The Calendar and Timeline report views can display the value of worklogs alongside their duration. Use the Values switch in the filter panel to turn this on or off โ€” it is on by default and remembered separately for each view. The same visibility rules apply: members see values only for their own time.

Values on Cards and in Work Logsโ€‹

Two personal preferences in Settings โ†’ Hourly rates bring values outside the reports:

  • Show tracked value on card badges โ€” displays the value of tracked time directly on Trello card badges
  • Show tracked value in work logs โ€” displays the value next to entries in work log lists

Both are per-user settings and respect the same visibility rules.

Exporting Valuesโ€‹

Workspace admins can add financial columns to CSV exports in the Export section, including a Value column with the monetary value of each worklog. Exports follow the currently applied filters.

Financial columns are available in manual exports only โ€” Scheduled Exports never include money data.
