⚙️ Settings

The Settings page allows you to customize Chronos to fit your workflow. It contains different tabs depending on your role: all users have access to Personal settings, while administrators have additional tabs for Board settings, Permissions, Hourly rates, Clients, Billing, and Member Licenses.

Hourly rates are covered on the dedicated Rates page, and Clients on the Invoicing page.

Personal Settings

Personal settings are available to all users and apply only to your account within the current board. These preferences control how Chronos displays information and behaves for you.

Tracker Controls

  • Show tracker control in card buttons: When enabled, displays timer start/stop buttons directly on Trello cards for quick access.

  • Show review window on start timer: Opens a review window when you start tracking time, allowing you to add comments or adjust details before the timer begins.

  • Show review window on stop timer: Opens a review window when you stop tracking time, giving you a chance to add comments or make adjustments.

Work Log Display

  • Show currently tracking work logs: Displays work logs that are currently being tracked in real-time. This helps you see what team members are working on right now.

  • Show own currently tracking work logs: When "Show currently tracking work logs" is enabled, this option filters to show or not your own active work logs.

  • Show work logs only from the current board: Limits work log visibility to only the current Trello board, hiding work logs from other boards.

Card Badges

Card badges provide quick visual information directly on Trello cards:

  • Show who is tracking on card detail badges: Displays which team members are currently tracking time on a card when viewing the card details.

  • Show who is tracking on card badges: Shows who is currently tracking time directly on the card badge in the board view.

  • Show tracked time on card badges: Displays the total tracked time for each card directly on the card badge.

Estimates

Estimates help you plan and track work more effectively:

  • Use estimates: Enables the estimates feature, allowing you to set time estimates for cards and compare them with actual tracked time.

  • Show estimates on card badges: When estimates are enabled, displays the estimated time directly on card badges.

  • Highlight underestimate cards: Visually highlights cards where the tracked time exceeds the estimated time, helping identify tasks that took longer than expected.

Account Information

The Personal Settings page also displays important account information:

  • Account ID: Your unique Chronos account identifier
  • Board ID: The current Trello board identifier
  • Workspace ID: Your Trello workspace identifier
  • Workspace name: The name of your Trello workspace
  • License date: The start and end dates of your current license (if applicable)
  • Billing plan: Your current subscription plan (free, trial, or team)

Board Settings

Board settings are available only to administrators and apply to all users on the current board. These settings affect how Chronos behaves for everyone using the board.

First Day of the Week

Choose whether the week starts on Monday or Sunday. This setting affects how dates are displayed in reports and calendars throughout Chronos.

Allow Multitracking

When enabled, allows team members to track time on multiple cards simultaneously. This is useful when working on several tasks at once or when switching between related tasks.

New Work Logs Are Billable by Default

Sets whether work logs created on this board start as billable. Leave it on for client boards; turn it off for internal boards where most time isn't charged to a client. The default applies only to new work logs — existing entries keep their current flag, and anyone can still change the flag per work log. See Invoicing → Billable time.

Permissions

The Permissions tab (admin only) allows you to control what each team member can do with time tracking on the current board. You can set granular permissions for each user.

Permission Types

  • Enable: Toggles whether the user can use Chronos time tracking features at all on this board.

  • Allow track: Permits the user to start and stop time tracking.

  • Allow manual: Allows the user to manually add work logs without using the timer.

  • Allow edit: Permits the user to edit their own work logs.

  • Allow delete: Permits the user to delete their own work logs.

  • Allow to edit and delete others work logs: Grants permission to modify or remove work logs created by other team members. Use this carefully for managers or team leads who need to correct entries.

  • Allow to see others work logs: Controls whether the user can view work logs created by other team members in reports and views.

  • Require work log comment: When enabled, forces the user to add a comment when creating or editing work logs. This helps ensure better documentation of work.

Note: Administrators cannot have their permissions modified by other administrators, except by themselves.

Hourly Rates

The Hourly rates tab (admin only) is where you set per-member hourly rates and the board currency. It is covered on the dedicated Rates page.

Clients

The Clients tab (admin only) is where you group boards under the clients you bill and store each client's contact and tax details. Once boards are assigned to clients, you can group reports by client and generate invoices per client. See the Invoicing page for the full workflow.

Billing

The Billing tab (admin only) provides complete control over your Chronos subscription, license management, and payment information.

Member Licenses

The Member Licenses tab (admin only) allows you to manage which team members have active Chronos licenses seats within your workspace.

Note:

  • Licenses are valid only within the workspace
  • Unlimited boards are supported within the workspace
  • You cannot activate more members than you have licenses for
  • Deactivating a member frees up a license for another team member
